Butch Hattfield is a creative introvert who produces artwork for his family and
friends. Butch has always drawn. He entered architectural college at Miami
University, Oxford Ohio in 1970 graduating in 1975. He spent his fourth year
studying at the Architectural Association of London and toured Europe. The
Butch Hattfield artistic trade mark style solidified during his college years.
Upon graduation he moved back to Cleveland, Ohio to begin his architectural
career. Practicing architecture pretty much sucked the life out of him.
Butch’s drawings are his personal life cartoons. A picture with a written
theme. He has never signed his true name to the drawings since he is
embarrassed by them. He bears a vague resemblance to Albert Einstein. In
his freshman college days, Butch drew wildly colorful posters with DayGlo
markers. Later he transitioned to black ink Rapidiograph drafting pen on
white paper. Tiring of constantly having to shake a Rapidograph pen, he now
draws with a Sharpie Ultra Fine Point marker. Beginning in 1976, Butch
created an annual 8 1/2″ by 11 inch size Christmas card which he mailed to his
friends and family. The card was kind of a summary of the year. A collection
of Butch’s art is available on this website. We hope you enjoy.
